St. Mureduch’s and Davitt College secure Connacht Post Primary Schools Futsal titles

The Connacht Post Primary Futsal Finals took place yesterday (Thursday, November 18) in NUI Galway.

Schools from Galway, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo and Roscommon participated in this action packed event. The boys section was very exciting with over 50 goals scored in 10 entertaining matches.

Defending Champions St. Joseph’s, Galway were very unfortunate not to qualify for the finals but should take pride in their performance throughout the competition.

This year it was the boys from Mayo and Roscommon to take their opportunity of crowning glory. The final was held between St Murdeach’s College, Ballina and Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown.

It was a thrilling decider with numerous goal scoring opportunities as St. Murdeach’s emerged successful on a 4-1scoreline.

The quality on display in the girl’s section was exceptional with defending Champions Davitt College, Mayo emerging victorious as they defeated Roscommon’s Elphin Community School in a very competitive final.

Their earlier encounter in the group stages set for a thrilling final as the two teams could not be separated in the earlier rounds. The game did indeed produce some fine goals with a 2-0 victory seeing the Mayo menace emerge to yet another All Ireland Final appearance.

Similar to the boys section over 30 goals were scored in the 10 girl’s games.

The event proved to be a huge success, with a high level of skill on a show and all games were played in a very sporting manner.

St. Muredachs and Davitt College will now progress to the All Ireland Finals which will be held on Tuesday, 7 December at Gormanston College. We wish the schools the very best of luck in their endeavours to be crowned All Ireland Champions.
The event which is part of the FAI’s football in schools programme will be co-ordinated by National Development Officer for Schools, Mr. Ian Carry. For further information please contact Ian on 086 043 7686.
