Wales secure valuable away win over Scotland

Press Release: Thursday, March 24, 2016

Welsh secure victory over Scots

Scotland 0-1 Wales

Ifan Jones (57)

The fifth of the INSPIRESPORT CENTENARY SHIELD fixtures took place tonight (March 24) in Harlow Park, Inverurie Local Works FC, with the Welsh securing a valuable away win to get their Centenary Shield off the mark.

A solitary goal courtesy of Ifan Jones just before the hour mark proved crucial as Wales now sit second in the leader board following this victory. Scotland drew with Northern Ireland in their opening game of the Centenary Shield at the end of February, recording a point from two competitive outings.

Scotland will now have to brush themselves down from this narrow defeat as they travel to Fleetwood Town next Friday evening to take on league leaders England in a must win game for the Scots.

England will entertain the tartan army on April 1 in Highbury Stadium and one week later, the Republic of Ireland will come to town as The New Saints FC will play host.

The Republic of Ireland will then face off against Scotland in Celtic Park, Killarney on April 24. The penultimate Centenary Shield fixture will see Northern Ireland at home to Wales and the finale has the Welsh at home to the Republic of Ireland in Llandudno.

The Shield is wide open at this stage of proceedings but England are looking at a slight advantage with two wins from two and the next two games at home.
