PITCHSIDE REPORTING

THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND got their Bob Docherty Cup campaign off to a positive start with a merited victory over hosts Wales at the superbly appointed Dragon Park complex this evening (April 1)

The Irish challenge was evident from the kick-off with a high pressure approach.

This paid dividends in the second minute when Amy Boyle Carr made the most of a ball which saw her outpace a static defence to confidently convert and put Ireland into an early lead

A tigerish midfield contest, eventually secured by Republic of Ireland, proved the platform for what was ultimately a comprehensive victory.

An exquisitely rehearsed and splendidly struck free kick saw Louise Masterson double the lead which the Irish girls held up to half time thanks to solid defending and safe handling from goalkeeper Rachael Kelly.

A sustained Welsh effort saw their impressive midfield and potentially dangerous strike force pressurise a well marshalled Irish rear-guard. However the best efforts of the hosts fell short as second half goals from Meghen Hengerer, Tyler Toland and Alannah McEvoy saw the Republic of Ireland secure a vital victory.

Amy Boyle Carr secured the POTM accolade following a stunning performance from the Glenties pupil. Maureen O'Donnell (Assistant Manager) presented Amy with the award.
