FAI Schools nominees for ‘Three’ FAI International Footballer of the Year

The ‘Three’ FAI International Football Awards will take place on Sunday, March 19 at the RTÉ Studios, Donnybrook, Dublin 4.

FAI Schools have three players attending the event with Shane HANNEY (Clonkeen College), and Conor KANE (Coláiste Phadraig, Lucan CBS) and Conor McCARTHY (Scoil Mhuire agus Smál, Blarney) up for nomination for the prestigious FAI Schools award. Previous winners include Stephen Ward (Portmarnock CS), Robbie Benson (Marist College, Athlone), Alan Browne (Nagle CC), Seán Maguire (CBS Kilkenny), Ryan Manning (Yeats College, Galway) and most recently Connor Ellis (Coláiste Phobail, Bheanntraí). We wish the three players and their families the very best of luck on the night.

Shane HANNEY

A past pupil of Clonkeen College in Blackrock, Hanney had an excellent season for FAI Schools. He had an impressive campaign for Paddy O’Reilly’s side in defence and put in some sterling performances against Scotland and England which ensured Ireland’s unbeaten record in the competition. Shane is currently lining out for Shamrock Rovers.

Conor KANE

Coláiste Phádraig, Lucan CBS scholar, Kane was in remarkable form for the Republic of Ireland Schools side as he opened the scoring against Scotland to ensure a 3-1 victory to the hosts that night. His hard work and dedication ensured him a starting position in three of the four competitive fixtures having missed out in the Northern Ireland game due to injury. Conor now applies his trade with Drogheda United having previously starred with St. Patrick’s Athletic.

Conor McCARTHY

Conor enjoyed two Centenary Shield campaigns with the Irish Schools select. He tasted success in his first outing with the squad in 2015 and were runners up in 2016. Conor Captained his side against Northern Ireland & Scotland. He was a pivotal player for the Republic of Ireland and featured heavily in every game of the campaign.  The Scoil Mhuire agus Smál, Blarney student togs out for Cork City having previously played with Blarney United from a promising 5 year old.
