FAI/Laois County Council Late Night Soccer League

Laois nightlife…

The FAI/Laois County Council in association with Laois LSP, The Block Project, Laois VEC, Foroige and An Gardaí Síochána organised a six week late night soccer league which was run at Portlaoise Leisure Centre:

The aim of the programme was to give teenagers a late night activity and to reduce anti social behaviour in the Portlaoise area:

36 participants took part in the programme over the six weeks and points were awarded for each game they played:

The points were collected and prizes kindly donated by Laois Sports Partnership were awarded to the winners on the final night:

For the final night a number of Gardaí took part in the league playing in games with the participants and against two teams made up of the players in which the Gardaí came out on top in one and drew in the second:

The programme was run by Nichole Dunphy FAI/Laois County Council Community Development Officer and was assisted by Paul Hickey, Brian Flannery, Diane Burke (Block Project), Caroline Feehan (Laois LSP), Patricia Cullen (Laois VEC), Ann Marie Maher and Maureen Culliton (Laois Co Co), the staff of Portlaoise Leisure Centre and An Gardaí Síochána:

The winners of the league are all featured below: Ms Nichole Dunphy is pictured presenting the prizes to the lads:
