More Cup success for Fingal!

Skerries Community College (Boys Section) and Loreto Balbriggan (Girls Section) have won both their Regional Fingal Finals and the Dublin Finals of the FAI Schools Futsal (Indoor 5-a-side) competition and will go forward to the Leinster Finals in mid January:

Following the lead of progressive League of Ireland team Sporting Fingal both schools produced magnificent displays of attacking exciting futsal:

After a successful pilot last season, the programme was rolled out on a national basis this year: The competition caters for boys and girls in their first year of Post Primary School: The programme delivers a quality fast paced action packed game focusing on skill, speed and technique:

Skerries Community College had to overcome St Finian’s of Swords, Fingal Community College and a resolute Donabate/Portrane Community College in their North Fingal Finals:

The Dublin Finals were next up where they overcame St: Colmcille’s three two on penalties as well as seeing off the challenge of Mourne Road and Scoil Neasain:  Both teams produced a game worthy of a final:

The girls of North Dublin were not to be outdone and won through to the Leinster Finals by beating schools such as Mercy College, Donahies and St: Colmcille’s:  Their teacher and coach Mr: O’Brien had this to add “I was delighted for the girls for the effort they put in: They were a great credit to themselves and to Loreto Balbriggan”: The girls had already come through a six team group which included schools such as Donabate/Portrane Community College, Fingal Community College, St Finian’s, Skerries Community College and Loreto Swords:

FAI/FCC Development Officer and FAI Schools Futsal Co/ordinator Martin Doyle had praise for all teams, “We had two great competitions with a very high level of futsal being played: Congratulations to the winners but also well done to all the schools that progressed here to today’s Finals in Corduff Sports Centre:”

Paul Keogh FAI/FCC for North Fingal was also full of praise for the winning teams and notably the presence of Sporting Fingal at the events “Sporting Fingal has been tremendous in supporting the work of the FAI Development Officers: A highlight for the players in the preliminary rounds was when Shaun Maher of Sporting Fingal turned up at the event with the recently won FAI Cup: It shows the commitment of the club in supporting grassroots football within Fingal: This support from a progressive League of Ireland club is a great asset
