Wednesday, 9 December saw the hosting of the FAI Schools Primary Futsal (Indoor 5-a-side) competition for 3rd/4th Classes in Skerries Community Centre:
Six teams from the North Fingal area took part in a great showcase of skill, speed and technique:
The schools included Balbriggan Educate Together NS, Bracken Educate Together NS, Donabate Educate Together NS, St: Teresa’s NS of Balbriggan, St Patricks NS of Skerries and Rush NS:
In what was a closely fought group of six teams with the top two teams contesting the final both Rush NS and St Teresa’s NS emerged:
After beating St Teresa’s in the group game and going unbeaten throughout Mr Ahern’s Rush side lost out in a sudden death penalty shootout: Great credit to Rush NS who were very gracious in defeat were sportsmanship and fun won out:
An obviously delighted St Teresa’s brought the bragging rights back to Balbriggan but the real winners on the day were all the players from all of the schools:
To be asked to represent their school was a great achievement and no doubt they are looking forward to next year’s competition
Excitement in the hall was matched only by the presence of Shaun Maher of Sporting Fingal who proudly brought along the FAI Cup: The players were given the opportunity to a question and answer session with the very honest Shaun and got a chance to get their picture taken with the famous FAI Cup:
Commenting on the day FAI/FCC Development Officer Paul Keogh had this to say “a great tournament took place with skill in abundance: All the players did their schools proud and will hopefully continue their Futsal practice in their schools: I would like to thank the teachers for their support and the numerous voluntary hours they put in in helping to grow the game at grassroots level: Finally, a big thank you to Sporting Fingal on their continued support and all schools in Fingal should look forward to the FAI Cup visiting their school soon”:
