Meath Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals

The Aura Leisure Centre in Trim was the setting for the Meath Post Primary Schools Futsal blitz: FAI Development Officer for Meath, Mark Scanlon, was the co/ordinator of the event which saw teams from 8 schools compete in the Boys and Girls competitions:

First up was the Girls in a 6 team competition and after 15 exciting group matches Eureka from Kells topped the group with maximum points after 5 wins from 5 games:

St: Peter’s College Dunboyne finished in runner/up in the group and secured a place in the final against Eureka:

Rathoath College finished in third place on goal difference ahead of Beaufort College (Navan): Athboy Community School grabbed fifth place ahead of Beaufort College B team:

There were 46 goals in 16 games and the final provided the spectators with an enthralling finish to the day: 

After an end to end game Eureka and St: Peter’s College were tied 2 goals a piece and the game went into extra/time:

Two minutes into extra/time St: Peter’s College struck and scored the Golden Goal to win the competition and advance to the North Leinster Finals:

The Boys blitz was even more exciting as 8 teams from 6 schools competed for the title of Meath Futsal champions:

Group 1 was topped by a talented Athboy team and they were joined in the semi/finals by the runners/up in their group; St: Peter’s College (Dunboyne) B team:

Beaufort College (Navan) A  team finished in third and St: Fintina’s from Longwood finished in fourth:

Group 2 was topped by St: Peter’s College A team and Rathoath College secured the last semi/final spot by finishing second:

Beaufort College B team finished in third and Ashbourne Community College finished fourth:

In the playoff’s Ashbourne overcame St: Fintina’s in the battled for 7th place with a 4/3 victory and Beaufort B beat Beaufort A 2/1 after extra time to grab 5th place:

The first semi/final saw Rathoath College go two up against Athboy before being pegged back with the final kick of the game:

Athboy carried the momentum into extra/time and scored the golden goal to send them into the final: It was an all St: Peter’s College tie in the second semi/final and although the B team scored first the A team rallied and scored two excellent goals to proceed to the final:

In the final, chances were few and far beaten but St: Peter’s College took a late lead and as Athboy frantically looked for an equalizer St: Peter’s College sealed victory with a second goal to complete an impressive Boys and Girls double in an exciting week for the Dunboyne school which also saw them having the honour of a visit from the legendary Pele to the local club Dunboyne AFC who are the current FAI Aviva Club of the Year:

Overall both competitions were a massive success and a total of 31 Futsal games saw 139 goals scored:
