MOYNE JUST ONE GAME AWAY FROM RETAINING CUP

Gavin Earley, Evening Herald

MOYNE Community School are just one game away from retaining the FAI  Schools Minor Girls Leinster Cup (U14) after a semi/final victory over Eureka Kells, writes Gavin Earley:

Moyne completed an impressive double of the national U14 cup and the FAI Post/ Primary Futsal Cup last year, and are quickly closing in on repeating half of that achievement this year:

The Longford school saw off Eureka 2/0 in Tuesday's final/four encounter thanks to goals from Maggie Cassidy and Aidean Mimnagh in Mullingar:

The school's U16 girls were not as fortunate, however, in their semi/final a few days earlier in Monaghan:

Moyne's older girls were seen off 2/1 by Moville Community College despite Michell Hesslin heading home Michelle Farrell's cross to give them an early lead: The second half started at a frantic pace, with Moville creating chance after chance:

Gemma McGuinness equalised for Moville after the break, and Farrell went close, only for the crossbar to deny her side the lead:

Shannon McDonald slotted home the winning goal for Moville and Moyne will now focus their efforts on their U14 side's challenge for honours
