U18 Girls Leinster League Quarter Final

Portmarnock Community School 1/3 Wilson's Hospital School, Multyfarnham

Sarah Boyle (60),                                                                                                         Jillian Cunningham (41, 82) Lauren Payne (55)

Following an unfortunate discipline incident the Multyfarnham girls made the trek to Portmarnock with 3 players on a 3 match ban:

Nonetheless in a sign of the depth of quality available to coaches Liam Boggs and Gavan Kierans the Wilson’s girls were able to field a squad that were All Killer, No Filler:

In perfect conditions Portmarnock CS got off to a fine start: They struck the crossbar in the first minutes of the game: This was enough to waken up the Wilson’s girls:

By half/time the teams were still finely balanced at nil/all:

Wilson’s got stuck in straight after the restart and Jillian Cunningham slotted home a fine goal:

15 minutes later Lauren Payne made up for some early misses by breaking through to put Wilson’s two up:

In the 60th minute Megan Gould came on for Clara Wilson and freshened up the Wilson’s attack: Gould was unlucky not to be on the scorecard when she hit the crossbar just after her introduction

With 10 minutes to go Portmarnock were rewarded for their overall effort: First Year scholar Sarah Boyle fired a high shot from distance toward Leanne Mulvey in the Wilson’s goals: The dry hard pitch surface ensured a high bounce which slipped over the advancing Mulvey’s reach:

Defender Davina Harris suffered a hip problem and was replaced by Megan McVitty with 14 minutes to go:

Wilson’s held on under sustained attack: With 2 minutes of injury time played Jillian Cunningham broke through on the right hand side of the penalty box and booked a place for the Wilson’s girls in the semi finals:

The game ended Portmarnock 1 Wilson’s Hospital School 3

Best for Portmarnock were goal scorer Sarah Boyle, Lyndsey Loftus, Shauna Cummins and Kim White:

Especially good for the Wilson’s squad were defenders Davina Harris, Laura McCullagh, mid/fielder Gunda Marl and super – sub Megan Gould:

Wilson’s Hospital School: Leanne Mulvey, Alice Evans, Davina Harris, Laura McCullagh, Emilie Dugdale, Sharlene Cunningham, Gunda Marl, Lyndsey Payne, Clara Wilson, Jillian Cunningham, Lauren Payne: Subs: Megan McVitty for Davina Harris(70 minute) Megan Gould for Clara Wilson (60 Minute) Jenny Foley, Aisling O’Brennan, Jessica Shekleton (sub/keeper)
