Primary School Soccer Calendar

The Carlow FAI Schools 5-a-side Finals were held in Tullow with local club Parkville United FC once again hosting the event last Wednesday (May 4)

The original day for the competition in April was cancelled at the last minute due to the poor weather and those schools who rearranged their school timetables to participate in the competition need to be complimented:

14 schools in total participated in this year’s competition and once again we had new schools participating with Clonegal National School and St Fiaccs National School both playing in the boys and girls competitions:

34 games were played over the day on 6 mini pitches with each pitch having 3 students from the FAI Soccer Specific course in IT Carlow referring and coordinating fixtures:

The day is very important for the development of the IT Carlow students and their help and professional attitude is very welcome and appreciated by FAI staff and all the schools present on the day:

In the Boys “A” Cup it was Ardattin National School who won and qualified for the South Leinster Finals:

The Boys “A” Cup was split into 3 groups with the winner of each group then playing in a mini group of 3 schools with Old Leighlin National School and Myshall National School also qualifying

The final competition for the boys was the “C” Cup and this competition saw Bishop Foley NS “A” team play TullowA” team in the final, with Bishop Foley NS winning 4/1 and moving on the South Leinster Finals:

Askea Boys NS and St Fiaccs NS also participated in the Boys “A” Cup with each of the 4 schools fielding 2 teams:

15 girls’ teamsparticipated this year and in the small schools Girls “A” Cup section the final game saw Ardattin NS play against Clonegal NS in the final with the girls from Ardattin winning 1/0 and like the boy’s team from Ardattin they qualified for the South Leinster Finals in Bunclody:

On the day there were 19 boy’s teams and 15 girl’s teams participating with 152 boys and 120 girls getting the opportunity to play and represent their school in a national FAI Schools competition:

A big thank you to all schools, teachers, students and those who volunteered to help make the day run so well and also to the FAS workers in Parkville United FC for getting the 6 mini pitches ready for the day and to the club for once again giving the FAI the facilities in Tullow for the day:
