An Post FAI Schools 5-a-side South Leinster FINALS

The South Leinster qualifiers of the An Post FAI Schools 5-a-side competition for Primary Schools will take place on Wednesday, May 16 at the Showgrounds in Gorey

Schools have come through their relevant County events and now advance to the second stage of qualifiers for a place in the Leinster Finals on May 23 in the MDL Grounds, Navan:

The event will see schools from Carlow, Wicklow and Wexford participate in the South Leinster Regional FINALS with 46 teams amounting to 368 participants taking part in the day/long event:

There are 5 divisions to suit all school sizes: While FAI Schools encourage boys and girls to play on the same team, there is also a separate competition for girls’ schools: A number of teams can represent one school depending on the size of their student body, giving more children the chance to develop their skills in a safe, child centered and exciting environment:

The event has proved very popular in recent years with participating schools advancing to the Leinster Finals if they taste success in Gorey on Wednesday: Some of these schools have even proved to be immensely successful when reaching National level:

Almost a decade ago, Poulfour NS in Wexford claimed All Ireland success in the Girls “A” Cup section with wins in 2003 and 2005:

St: Joseph’s NS in Gorey were All Ireland Champions in 2010, in the Boys “C” Section having claimed runners up spot in the same section a year previously: The school have two teams competing this time around and will be hoping for a repeat performance come Wednesday:

2009 was an excellent year for the South Leinster Schools with Gaelscoil Inbhear Mor, Wicklow picking up the prestigious All Ireland crown in the Boys “B” Section while debutants Bennekerry NS, Carlow made it a double celebration in the Girls “B” Cup: A wonderful achievement for the school having had no experience competing at that stage previously

Rathgarogue’s Scoil Naomh Aine of Wexford received a third place finish in the “B” Schools Cup at the All Ireland Finals last season alongside Bree NS, Wexford in the Girls “A” Cup: Carlow’s Bishop Foley NS were runners up in the “C” Schools Cup the same year:

Schools are requested to be in attendance early for registration as all games kick off at 10:15am: The series of events should conclude at 2pm followed by the presentations:

Will Doyle will be co/ordinating events on the day and wishes all participating schools the best of luck in what should prove to be a very entertaining day of football:
