EA Sports FAI Schools 5 A Side in Clare

The County Clare EA Sports FAI Schools Primary Schools 5 A Side took place last Tuesday 28thApril and Thursday 30th April at Lees Road Sports Complex, both days saw glorious sunshine and plenty of skill and excitement, saves and goals, as this year’s competition had a mixture of traditional schools and new schools participating in the Competition for the first time.

An impressive 38 schools entered this year with 71 teams participating in total. All games were played on 4 small sided pitches.

The A Section for small sized schools in both categories was played on Tuesday with 28 Boys Teams and 16 Girls Teams taking part.

Cahermurphy captured the Boys A title with a penalty shoot-out victory over Quilty National School, while the Quilty Boys were disappointed, the very impressive Quilty Girls defeated Kilkee 3 – 0 in their section to ensure a title went to the West Clare School.

The B Section for medium sized schools in both categories took place on Tuesday with 14 Boys teams and 12 Girls teams participating.

Liscannor National School captured the Boys title with a penalty shoot-out victory over 2008 winners Newmarket on Fergus, while in the Girls an impressive Barefield National School Ennis defeated Sixmilebridge National School 3 – 0 in the final to progress to the Munster Finals.

Ennis National School defeated St Conaires of Shannon in the Final of the Boys C Category which caters for large schools.

Denis Hynes Development Officer for Clare thanked all Schools for taking part over the 2 days and wished the winning teams the best of luck in the Munster Finals which take place at Brickfields Nenagh AFC, Tipperary on Wednesday 13th May.

He also thanked the referees, supplied by Rice College and St Flannan’s College, Lees Road Sports Complex for the preparation work and use of their facilities and some local Club Volunteers.
