Primary School Soccer Calendar

The Cork Finals of the FAI Schools 5-a-side Primary Schools competition had a pulsating finale at Castletreasure, the home ground of College Corinthians Football on Wednesday last (13 April)

Earlier preliminary rounds had already taken place at Mayfield AFC, Midleton AFC, Ringmahon AFC and Springfield AFC:

The competition caters for boys and girls with the emphasis on small sided games played on reduced sized pitches and using goals suited to the children’s size:

Despite the difficult weather conditions, the players served up a feast of football with goals galore:

The event was organised and run by FAI Regional Development Officers Stephen O’Mahony and David Bell with the help of local primary school’s teacher Fergus McDaid, and a member of the National Executive of FAI Schools:

Members of the Cork Referees Association officiated proceeding with Finbarr Bevan, Michael O Hanlon, Willie Long, Keith Callanan, Declan Merritt, Daniel Flynn, Nicholas Cunneen and Jerry Hurley all assisting with Aidan O’Regan acting co/ordinator:

In the Girls “A” section, St: Mary's NS Carrigaline narrowly edged out Goggins Hill, Ballinhassig:

As both teams finished level on points, the Carrigaline girls advanced to the Munster Finals (to be held on May 11 also at Castletreasure) by virtue of the result between the teams, a 3/1 victory to St: Mary's:

Indeed St: Mary's had cause for a double celebration as their boys also go forward to represent Cork with a narrow one point winning margin over Castlelyons NS in the Boys “B” Section:

The Boys “A” Section was decided on goal difference with Bweeng NS outscoring Scoil Naomh Seosamh of Larach Bandon:

Goal difference was also needed to separate Scoil Mhuire Fatima, North Monastery and St: Anthonys BNS, Ballinlough, as both teams were tied with 5 points each: However, superior goal difference for the Ballinlough boys saw them clinch the Boys “C“ Section:

Congratulations to all the winners who will now represent Cork in the upcoming Munster Finals on May 11: Good luck to all!
