Ferrybank National School claim Jack Kennedy Memorial Shield

After last week’s thrilling Futsal Final for large schools which Mount Sion claimed, it was now the turn of the small and medium schools section as the stage was set in the impressive Kingfisher Sports Complex today (December 1) reports Gary Power (FAI Waterford Development Officer)

In Group One, four teams participated namely Portlaw “A”, Portlaw “B”, St: Beacon’s and Christ Church NS all taking part:

After some thrilling games it was the boy’s from Mullinavat, St: Beacon’s who emerged as Group One winners and qualified for the Waterford area final:

In Group Two, six schools competed with three qualification places up for grabs, Ferrybank BNS, Slieverue NS, Faithlegg NS, Waterpark NS, Kill NS, and Gaelscoil Philib Barun were all in the mix: With the format of each team playing everybody else once it made for a long afternoon: With the games drawing to a conclusion, three schools clearly emerged as qualifiers with Ferrybank BNS, Slieverue NS, and Faithlegg NS all qualifying for the final today:

The competition got underway with St: Beacon’s defeating Slieverue 4/1 in a vivacious game

The second series of matches saw Ferrybank run out comfortable winners over Faithlegg NS

The third outing served up a cracker as local rivals Ferrybank and Slieverue played out a fantastic game: Slieverue quickly went 2/0 up before Ferrybank battled back to claim an outstanding 6/3 victory:

St: Beacon’s defeated Faithlegg 3/0 in the following match:

The penultimate game saw Slieverue defeat Faithlegg 2/1, whilst the concluding game between St: Beacon’s and Ferrybank acted as the Final as both teams had won their first two games:

Ferrybank BNS Winners

Ferrybank BNS came out on top in the final with a hat/trick of goals (3/0) to claim the Waterford boy’s small and medium schools futsal title:

As this was a new competition a new shield was presented to competition organiser Gary Power from Principal Ger Duggan of Ferrybank BNS: The Shield was in memory of former teacher of the School Mr: Jack Kennedy who had a long contribution to primary schools football in Waterford:

It was really fitting for Ferrybank to claim the new Jack Kennedy Memorial Futsal Shield representing the small and medium schools category and they will be hoping to defend their honour for many more years to come
