St. Mary’s SS, Newport 3-0 Wilson’s Hospital School, Multyfarnham

Emma Coleman (16 pen), Nadine Stokes (38), Skye Sheahy (41)

A HAT-TRICK of goals from Sara Quinn’s side saw St. Mary’s SS of Newport overcome a lack lustre Wilson’s Hospital School in Portlaoise AFC this afternoon (Thursday, April 6).

The Tipperary troops were the better side over the hour but a solid performance from U15 Schools’ International Kayla Brady didn’t go unnoticed as well as a sterling performance from their goalkeeper Jennifer Wright whose endeavours kept the score-line to a minimum.

The hardworking Sky Sheahy was causing all sorts of problems for the Westmeath defence in the opening quarter. She rattled the side netting and clipped the post inside the 8th and 13th minute of play for the Newport scholars.

But it was Emma Coleman who broke the deadlock with 16 minutes on the clock as her converted from the penalty spot following an earlier infringement.

Their advantage was doubled inside the first eight minutes of the restart as Nadine Stokes fired home from close range.

Their lead was extended even further as eventually Skye Sheahy found her range with a peach from the edge of the box to make it 3-0.

Captain Emma Kett was unfortunate to see her rocket smash off the upright ten minutes from time.

The Multyfarnham keeper produced some wonderful saves as she deflected efforts from Coleman and Sheahy late on to keep the Newport onslaught at bay.

St. Mary’s Secondary School will meet St. Patrick’s College, Lacken Cross in this season’s Cup decider which will be a curtain raiser to the Minor Girls Cup which sees Moville Community College line out opposite Presentation Secondary School, Kilkenny. The double header is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26 with venue to be confirmed shortly.
