The inaugural Monaghan Futsal Finals took place on Wednesday, 25 November 2009 in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross. Both boys and girls teams were participating in the event.
Seventeen teams took part in total with nine boys schools and eight girls schools represented.
The event proved a great success with both pupils and teachers delighted with their introduction to the game of FUTSAL.
The boys’ competition was divided into three groups of three, with the winner in each group playing each other in a round robin format.
Then the winners in each group play each other to decide the overall winner.
Broomfield NS, St Oliver Plunkett’s Loughmourne and Scoil Naomh Padraig Corracrin, emerged group winners.
After a closely contested final round of matches, St Oliver Plunkett’s came out on top defeating Scoil Naomh Padraig on a 2-1 score-line to claim the boys title.
The Girls competition also proved exciting.
The teams were divided into two groups of four, with the top teams in each group playing off in a final.
Broomfield NS Castleblaney and Scoil Rois Carrickmacross won their groups respectively and played out a closely contested Final, with the girls from Scoil Rois taking the title with a last minute 1-0 victory.
