The County Cavan Primary Schools Futsal Finals took place on Friday, 27 November 2009 in the Cavan Leisure Complex. Both boys and girls teams were participating in the event.
There were 10 teams in all playing on the day, with 6 boy’s schools and 4 girl’s schools.
The boy’s competition consisted of 2 groups of three teams, with the group winners playing in a final, the two runners-up playing in a 3rd/4th place play-off, and the two third placed teams playing in a 5th/6th place play-off.
The two group winners, Corlurgan and Kilnaleck played out a fiercely contested battle in the final. At half time the sides were level at 3-3 but towards the end of the second half Kilnaleck pulled away to take the victory in an exciting game, on a score line of 7-3.
The 3rd/4th place play-off was contested by Ballyconnell and Butlersbridge. There was no shortage of goals in this game with Butlersbridge running out convincing 8-1 victors.
The 5th/6th place play-off between St. Mary’s Drung and Corliss again showed no shortage of excitement and goals with St. Mary’s Drung coming away with a 4-1 victory.
The girl’s competition consisted of one group of four. Each team played each other once with the top placed team winning the competition.
This proved just as exciting as the boy’s competition, and with just as many goals to show. Kilnaleck went through the group with a 100% record to claim the girl’s competition.
So congratulations to Kilnaleck on completing the double winning both the girls and boys competition.
The event proved to be a huge success, with all players and teachers leaving delighted with their introduction to FUTSAL. Players adapted well to the game, with good skill levels on show and all players performed in a very sporting manner.
