Xtra-vision FAI Schools 5-a-Side in LAOIS

The Laois Xtra-vision FAI Schools 5 a side finals took place on April 29^th in Portlaoise AFC. With a total of 61 teams taking part it was a large increase on the past number of years.

All schools taking part in the “A” small schools competition took part in two initial competition days in Durrow and Portlaoise. The final schools competing in the Boys A were The Heath NS, Ballyroan Boys NS, Kileen NS, Durrow NS and first time entrants Rosenallis NS. The Final came down to the wire with Durrow NS and Rosenallis NS fighting in out for the title. The game showed a great display of skill from both sides with Durrow winning out 1-0. 

In the Girls “A” schools finals the winners from the previous sections were Ballylynan NS, Kileen NS, Ballyfin NS and Kiladooley. First time entrants Ballyfin won out in the final against a strong and experienced Ballylynan side.

In the “B” Section Boys competition 12 teams took part to fight it out for a place in the Mid Leinster Finals. There were two groups in the competition and the team on the top of each group played off in the “B” finals. The schools taking part in the final were Gaelscoil Phortlaoise and first time entrants Ballyfin NS. The final was closely contested with Ballyfin winning out 2-1. 

In the Girls “B” competition Scoil Bhride entered two teams so automatically went through to the Mid Leinster finals.

In the “C” Section competition for large schools there were 5 teams taking part from two schools with a great display from the students of St. Pauls NS as they had two teams in the final with St. Pauls “A” winning out the final.
