Cootehill Harps FC hosts record number

The Cavan Xtra/vision FAI Schools 5-a-side competition took place last Monday 19, Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 April at Cootehill Harps FC:

An extra day was added to accommodate the increasing number of participating schools: A record number of 39 Schools entered with 95 teams participating: 8 small sided pitches were in use over the 3 days:

The Small Schools “A” Section for Boys was played on Monday with 36 boy’s teams competing: The final saw St: Mary’s Ballyhaise defeat St: Mary’s Arva after a very exciting game which included extra time and penalties: 

The Small Schools Section for “A” Girls took place on Tuesday with 26 teams participating and the girls final was also decided on penalties with Muff defeating Killygarry in a thrilling shoot out:

The Medium Schools Section took place on Wednesday with 20 boys and 11 girls teams participating on the day:

The boys section was won by St: Clare’s Ballyjamesduff who defeated Farnham in another exciting game with both teams playing an open attractive brand of football:

St: Mary’s Virginia completed a remarkable 4 in a row of 5-a-side girl’s titles when they defeated a very good Convent of Mercy, Belturbet team in the final:

St: Felim’s Cavan had 2 teams in the large schools section and will represent Cavan in the Ulster Finals in the Boys Large Schools “C” Section:

Tom Mohan FAI Development Officer for Cavan thanked all Schools for taking part over the 3 days and wished the winning teams the best of luck in the Ulster Finals which take place at Ballyare, Letterkenny on Wednesday 19 May:

Tom also remarked on the high level of skill and sporting manner shown by all teams, teachers and coaches over the 3 days:

Tom paid tribute to Cootehill Harps FC for the preparation of their grounds and use of the facilities; Mary Mc Enroe and the Cavan Institute of Further Studies for providing referees on Monday and Wednesday, Ballyjamesduff  FC and Monaghan United for providing goals, John Crudden Monaghan FAI Development Officer for his assistance and the referees who assisted on Tuesday:
