Presentation of the FAI Schools Leinster Boys First Year Futsal Champions & All Ireland Runner Ups

It was a proud moment for teachers, Tom Connon and Brendan Codd as they lead their team onto the field at the Boys International game against Wales yesterday, 26 February:
The team were honoured for their high achievements in winning the Leinster 1st Year Boys Futsal title as well as coming proud runners up in the All Ireland Futsal Final:

The Regional Development Officer (RDO) for Wexford, William Doyle was on hand to present certificates and the trophy to Wexford CBS to a cheering crowd of over 1,000 spectators:

 

SUMMARY OF ACHIEVEMENT:

The First Year Leinster Futsal Finals took place on Wednesday, 21st January in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght with 15 schools competing for the Leinster title in the boys section:

The boys were divided into 3 groups of 5:

Wexford CBS qualified from the group stages with victories over Grennan College, Kilkenny 2/0 and Portlaoise College 3/0 while drawing level with Beneavin College of Finglas and St: Brendan’s of Birr:

The semi final was another great display of creativity, accuracy and pace which the boys had an abundance of throughout the day:

St: Paul’s defeated Finglas giants Beveavin 2/1 while Wexford CBS overcame competition favourites O’Fiaich College 1/0 in the semi final pairings:

The grand finale saw St: Paul’s Secondary School, Kildare take on the mighty Wexford CBS: The Model County lived up to their name and produced a cracking performance in the final game of the afternoon: The Kildare lads went close on a couple of occasions but it was Wexford CBS who slotted home the vital goals winning 3/0 on the day:

Having captured the elusive Leinster title, Wexford CBS progressed to the First Year Futsal National Finals which were held in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on 11 February 2009:

The four provincial finalists consists of Collegiate School, Monaghan (Ulster), St: Joseph’s College, Galway (Connacht), High School Clonmel (Munster) and Wexford CBS (Leinster):

The Wexford lads did extremely well to progress to the Final which saw them draw 0/0 after extra time with St: Joseph’s College, Galway: The title was decided on penalties with Wexford narrowly missing out on a scoreline of 3/2 to Galway:
