SPAR FAI Primary School 5s Programme

Stephen Kenny helps launch the SPAR FAI School Zone

March 9, 2021

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has helped launch a new digital learning platform for teachers and parents of primary school children in 4th, 5th and 6th class.

The SPAR FAI School Zone offers interactive and engaging lesson plans designed with both the classroom and home schooling in mind. The lesson plans have been designed in consultation with a panel of teachers and promise to engage, educate and enthuse students.
The new teaching resource will be hosted on with innovative football themed lessons being emailed to those who have registered twice a week over the course of four weeks - beginning on March 15 and running until April 12.

Maths, History, Geography, English, Art and Irish are all covered in the School Zone, along with healthy eating options. The activity sheets will be emailed to teachers and parents weekly along with answer sheets.
Teachers who sign up for the SPAR FAI School Zone will be automatically entered into a competition, which will see one school in each county winning a special commissioned football kit.

One school selected from all participating schools nationwide will win a grand prize of a Zoom call with three Irish International players for their class.
The sponsorship of the SPAR FAI School Zone initiative, developed by the FAI, is a continuation of SPAR’s dedication to grassroots football, following on from the successful SPAR FAI Primary School 5s Programme.

The biggest and best competition in the

Primary School Football Calendar

The five-a-side school blitzes are open to boys and girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class, and puts emphasis on fun and inclusivity.

The competition has been running since the mid 1990’s, the event is more popular than ever with nearly 1,800 schools involved each year.

There are 5 divisions to suit all school sizes. While FAI Schools and SPAR encourage boys and girls to play on the same team, there is also a separate competition for girls’ schools.

A number of teams can represent one school depending on the size of their student body, giving more children the chance to develop their skills in a safe, child centered and exciting environment.

Registration usually open in early December and closes before the Mid Term Break in February, and county blitzes would kick off at the end of February.

Winning schools progress from County level to regional then provincial finals, with the lucky few making it all the way to the National Finals, which will be held in the home of Irish football, Aviva Stadium, at the end of May.

The SPAR FAI Primary School 5s Programme is an initiative organised by the Football Association of Ireland Schools (FAI Schools).

SPAR’s support of the competition has been in place since 2015, and has seen participation figures grow year on year to become the largest primary school’s competition in the country.
