This fixture was tipped to be a battle of might, as Leinster Legends, Jobstown Community College in Tallaght met the impressive Munster men, Nagle Community College of Cork in the UMBRO FAI Schools Senior B Boys National Semi Final at Killavilla Park in Roscrea:
The game exceeded all expectations in this five goal thriller: The schools were well matched as the game ended 2/2 after full time: With extra time looming, the boys upped the tempo to display an explosive climax to the match:
Nagle seized the upper hand in the first half with a sweet goal courtesy of Kevin O’Regan: His right footed effort connected well from a cross on the left to rattle the top corner of the Jobstown net:
The second half produced three splendid goals with Morgan Burke finding the equaliser for Jobstown when he headed home from a corner:
The Cork men took the lead for the second time in the game shortly after with Martin O’Donoghue tapping in from close range after the ball rebounded of keeper Ward:
The match opened up for the Jim Halpin’s lads as they continued to apply pressure to the Cork goal mouth: Tallaght equalised for the second time as Michael Doyle rose highest to head past Shane Wright in a crowded penalty area after a well played set piece:
Both schools were extremely fatigued after 90 minutes of exhilarating football but this did not prevent the player’s from exercising a huge desire to win the game:
The first period of extra time was to prove the decisive turning point in the game:
Nagle CC played with great heart and determination throughout the 90 minutes of football but a moment of absolute magic from James Nolan was to be their downfall in extra time:
The skilful midfielder found himself in space and in doing so produced the goal of the game:
The youngster hit a cracking right footed screamer from 20 yards out to catch Wright off guard with a penetrating blast to the top corner:
The spectators were left on the edge of their seats as the minutes ticked by in the second half of extra time: Nagle pressed forward at every opportunity but to no avail: It was the lads from Leinster that prevailed in this pulsating encounter:
Jobstown’s success came from their immense work rate, skill and discipline: The final should prove to be another electrifying match for all to witness:
The other semi final will take place tomorrow (Friday, 30 January) at Erne Side Leisure Centre in Ballyshannon (KO 11:15am): Ulster’s Finn Valley College of Stranorlar play Connacht’s Colaiste Mhuire, Ballymote for a place in the final against the industrious Jobstown Community College:
