Moyne Community School 1/2 Moville Community College
Kingspan Century Park in Monaghan was the venue for last week’s UMBRO FAI Schools Junior Girls National Semi Final and it lived up to the pre game build up as both teams had starting 11’s consisting of current International under 15 squad members:
Moyne were first out of the traps and had a couple of goal chances, the best coming in the fourth minute when Donna Masterson got on the end of a floated free kick which Sarah Henry in the Moville goal did well to save at the second attempt:
Moville, under the guidance of International under 15 girls coach Margaret Mulhall, stepped up a gear and began to control the middle of the park with Gemma Mc Guinness pulling the strings:
Moyne realised this early on and when bypassing the midfield with a long ball over the top on the 14th minute number 10 Michelle Heslin guided the ball over the oncoming Henry and into the empty Moville goal: 1/0 to Moyne
The second half started at a frantic pace with Moville creating chance after chance: The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute when a breakdown in communication between defence and keeper let the busy Mc Guinness capitalise and smack the ball into the back of the net:
This spurred Moyne on and the talented Michelle Farrell went very close only the crossbar saved Moville with Henry well beaten:
The game turned in Moville’s favour in the 59th minute when Shannon Mc Donald scored what could only be called a goal which was worthy to win any game: Some really good interlink play saw the ball reach Mc Donald and she dually slotted the ball into the back of the net:
Sarah Jane Mc Donald could have extended the lead for Moville only for Moyne’s number 1 Laura Whelan pulling of an excellent save:
At the final whistle it was Moville who deservedly progressed to the All Ireland Final with St: Mary’s Secondary School, Ballina which is due to be played next week:
