The Limerick Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals were held last Wednesday with six schools participating: The standard of play was very high with most games going to the wire with all 11 teams in contention as the day drew to a close:
The skilful CBS Sexton Street picked up the boys title while the impressive Crescent Comprehensive College snatched the girls section title: Congratulations to all involved:
The Kerry Boys Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals took place in Mercy Mounthawk School, Tralee last Tuesday: Seven schools were represented namely hosts Mercy Mounthawk Tralee, Intermediate School Killorglin, Tralee Community College, Causeway Comprehensive, Killarney Community College, Castleisland Community College and St:Patrick’s College, Castleisland:
The schools were divided into 2groups which resulted in 11 games: The teams to top their respective groups were Mercy Mounthawk,Tralee and Intermediate School,Killorglin: An excellent encounter which saw Tralee win the tournament last season and Kilorglin victorious in 2009:
56 goals were scored in the group stages with some exciting matches played throughout with all teams providing great spectacles for all onlookers:
The final itself was a tight and tense game with plenty of skill on display, and there proved to be very little between the teams with the game finishing on a score of 1/1: It was into the dreaded extra time: It was Mounthawk that held their nerve to be crowned champions for 2011:
Mercy Mounthawk now go on to represent Kerry in the Munster Finals to be held at the Nenagh Arena on Wednesday, November 23:

CONNACHT
The Galway Post Primary Boys Futsal Finals took place last Tuesday with Galway Community College, St: Joseph’s College, Scoil Mhuire, Ballygar and Colaiste na Coiribe all competing for the County crown:
All four schools entered two teams each thus increasing their chances of glory: It was group 1 winners Colaiste na Coiribe against group 2 winners, St: Joseph’s second team in the final:
The finale was a close encounter with a solidarity goal separating the sides: Colaiste na Coiribe’s star duo of Dara Mulgannon and Dominic Gorton impressed throughout the group stages and in their final game however the crowning glory went to St: Joseph’s College:
The School well know as the bish had previous experience having been crowned Champions two years previously: Andrew Syanoski and Matthew Kilgannon played a pivotal part in their schools success: They will now want to replicate their county performance as they advance to their Provincial Finals on November 22 in NUIG:
The Galway Girls Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals were held in Ballygar which saw the impressive Dominican College, Taylor’s Hill crowned Champions for 2011:
Ballygar Community College tested the strength and depth of the Champs as they played out a thriller in the closing stages of the contest: The game finished 2/1 to Dominican College, the final whistle coming much too soon for the hosts as they were mounting pressure to gain the equalizer:
Colaiste na Coiribe, Salerno Secondary School, Presentation College, Scoil Mhuire were all represented on the day and enjoyed their participation in this year’s event:
Leitrim will have St: Clare’s Vocational School represent the boys section while Lough Allen College will do the honours for the girls as they came through their County deciders:
Mayo’s Davitt College, Castlebar retained their County Futsal crown in the girl’s category following a successful assault on Colaiste Mhuire, Tournamkeady, Scoil Acla, Achill and Sacred Heart, Westport: The latter provided the opposition in the final as hosts Davitt edged out the unfortunate Westport school on goal difference on the day:

ULSTER
St: Mogue’s College, Cavan and Patrician College, Carrickmacross will go head to head in the Ulster Futsal Finals on Thursday next, November 24 in the Aura Leisure Centre, Letterkenny as they won their respective County events last week in the Boys Section:
Representing the Girls category will be Breifne College, Cavan and Largy College, Clones:
Inishowen and Donegal have yet to confirm their entrants for the boys and girls sections in this year’s Ulster decider: No doubt it will be a closely fought battle:
LEINSTER
The Laois Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals were held in Scoil Chriost Ri & St: Mary’s CBS for the first year after the new school was opened in 2010:
Although St: Mary’s CBS had entered Schools competitions previously, this was the first year they had entered the First Year Futsal competition and showed they had talent throughout 11 a/side and 5-a-side events as their teams were very impressive in the in/door environment:
Debutants St: Mary’s CBS of Portlaoise were excellently coached and this was evident as they remained undefeated and captured the title in fine form: Other schools participating in the boys section were Mountrath Community School and Portlaoise College:
The girls section was won by Scoil Chriost Ri also of Portlaoise as they were sole entrants: The same school qualified last season and will be hoping the experienced gained last time out can ripe dividends this season:
The Offaly Post Primary Schools Futsal Finals were once again held in St: Brendan’s Community School in Birr: The event saw over 100 pupils and teachers packed into the sports hall for the most entertaining Futsal Finals in a number of years:
A very experienced Colaiste Choilm, Tullamore went undefeated throughout the competition although stiff competition came from St: Brendan’s Community School of Birr and Tullamore College, it was not enough to outstage the Irish School in becoming the Offaly Champions yet again:
Last season, the Offaly girl’s entrants were at an all time low but this season saw an explosion in numbers with four out of ten schools participating: Seven teams made up the mix with a number of schools entering two teams to increase their chances of success:
Those schools participating included St: Brendan’s Community School, Sacred Heart Tullamore, Killina Presentation Secondary School, Tullamore and Tullamore College: Games were closely contested with a large number of draws in the group stages
In the final stages of the group St: Brendan’s “A”, Killina “A” and Sacred Heart were all in position to top the group however with Sacred Heart only managing a draw in their final game and Killina overcoming St: Brendan’s in their final game Killina were crowned the Offaly Winners:
This is Killina’s first year in the competition and huge congratulations should go to all the girls who participated on the day:
