IT CARLOW - BA Sport and Exercise (Soccer) course

‘Women Leading the Way’

The BA Sport and Exercise (Soccer) course in IT Carlow was launched in August 2009: The course sees participants complete Player Development, Coach Education, Sports Science and Business modules over a 3 year degree programme:

One of the highlights so far in the current year has been the success of the female students on the course, currently 2 of the students (Megan Campbell and Louise Quinn) are playing with the Irish senior international women’s team: This brings the overall number of senior Irish international players who have been on the course to three with former student Aine O Gorman now playing with Doncaster Rovers Belles: Aine believes the time she spent in IT Carlow was vital in securing a contract in the Women’s Super league in England, she said ‘Training on a full time basis while completing the degree programme was a great development phase in my career to date: I improved greatly from training with and against male players both on the pitch and in the gym, the tempo and intensity was quick and tough but very enjoyable’:

It is also great to see the number of students on the IT Carlow course that will play in the recently launched Bus Eireann Women’s National League: Vanessa Austin and Lyndsey Galgey (Wexford Youths), Niamh Nolan (Shamrock Rovers) and Emma Donohoe (Peamount Utd) will play in the inaugural season:

Having such quality players on the course has also resulted in IT Carlow fielding a strong women’s team: The 2011/12 Women’s team (sponsored by ‘Lynda Maher Hair Studio’) are unbeaten to date and will be hoping to progress to the Premier division next year and also have their sights firmly set on challenging to win the WSCAI Cup

The 1st Round of CAO applications will close on February 1st: If you know of anybody who has expressed an interest in applying for the course please let them know this deadline is coming up:

Anybody who misses out on applying by Feb 1st can submit a ‘Late Application’ (this costs approx: €80) up until May 1st:

No applications can be accepted after May 1st: Over the past 3 years there have had numerous students, players and parents ringing and emailing in July and August looking to apply, unfortunately we cannot do anything for them
