Moville Community College 2-1 Coláiste Bhaile Chláir

A debutant season for Manager Aoife Hegarty of Moville Community College saw her side claim the Bank of Ireland FAI Schools Junior Girls National Cup following a dramatic final in the AUL Complex on Wednesday last (March 14)

The game was moved to the Clonshaugh venue following torrential rain in Dublin which proved too difficult for the surface at Home Farm FC to manage.

Played in very difficult conditions the Moville crew came from a goal down to claim the prestigious title, making up for the heartache of missing out in the Senior Cup the month previous where Presentation SS, Thurles gained the upper hand.

A massive blow for Fabienne Cooney’s select was the late withdrawal of striker Andrea Trill due to injury while Moville was boosted by the return of Kate McClenaghan for this showcase.

Claregalway College scholar Shauna Brennan gave the Connacht Champions the dream start with only five minutes on the clock when she pounced on a rebounded effort following Katie Roche’s initial interception for the U15 Schools’ International to slot past Clodagh Skelly

However Cooney’s hold on proceedings was short lived as Kerry Brown’s fabulous set piece from outside the box floated into Hannah Walsh’s top corner four minutes later to level the tie

With less than a quarter of an hour played, Brown produced another piece of magic which saw her long range effort hit the roof of the net giving Walsh no chance.

Brown was gifted her hat-trick early in the second half when she was one on one with goalkeeper Walsh but the striker pulled her effort wide of the mark.

Brown’s rocket on 14 minutes proved to the match winner in a game which was equally poised to delight.

Former Schools’ International Sinead Donovan impressed throughout as well as Caitlin Quinn and current stars Slevin and Brennan for the Claregalway crew but Skelly was on form to deny the quartet and ensured the Cup travelled North.

POTM

Bank of Ireland representative Denise Dunican and current Women’s International & former Schools’ starlet Leanne Kiernan were on hand to announce the Player of the Match accolade. It was no surprise that goal-scorer Kerry Brown of Moville Community College was named the BOI POTM following her heroics in Clonshaugh
